Founded in 1928 Lanzhou University Second Hospital （LUSH） is a hospital renown far and wide. After more than 80 years of construction and development, the hospital has become a comprehensive medical teaching and research center with diverse disciplines, abundant faculty resources, advanced medical techniques, and modern medical equipment. The Hospital was designated a tertiary A-level hospital by the Ministry of Health. In recent years, Lanzhou University Second Hospital, according to the principle of Collectivize Management, Intensive Management, Integrated Operations, we set up Kangtai Branch Hospital with Province Prison Administration hospitals, Meanwhile, Dingxi City People's hospital united with our hospital to found collocation Dingxi Hospital. At last, collocation Xigu Hospital was established by Xigu District People's Hospital as well as Lanzhou University Second Hospital.
Location
LUSH is located at the foot of White Pagoda Mountain and on the bank of the Yellow River, and situated on Cui Ying Men Street, within downtown Lanzhou, having many transport facilities available. Zhigong Hall inside the hospital, was an exam hall during the Qing Dynasty, and is the former site of the Lanzhou University.
History
Lanzhou Zhongshan Hospital was established in 1928, and it was the forerunner of today’s hospital. In 1932, the Attached Zhong Hospital of Gansu College was founded. One medical case record in 1933 reveals that there were more than 605 cases within one month at that time. Later in 1935, it was initially named Gansu Provincial Lanzhou Hospital by a government decree. In 1948 it was renamed the Attached Hospital of National Lanzhou University. And again in 1949, the name of the hospital changed into the Attached Hospital of Lanzhou University Medical College. It became independent on January 26, 1959 and was affiliated with Lanzhou University on November 18, 2004.
Hospital Today
LUSH has 3,500 beds and covers an area of more than 103,333 sq m and service area of 281,000 sq m. It has more than 5,000 staff and there are 123 clinical departments and 98 nursing units. In 2016, these indices amounted to 145,000 outpatients, 90,000 inpatients and more than 54,000 operations.
Kangtai Branch Hospital covers 27.62 acres. It provided 256 planed beds and 243 beds in use. Kangtai Branch Hospital employs around 242 full-time staff. There are 16 clinical medical departments and 8 nursing units in Inpatient Department. In 2016, these indices amounted to 22,700 outpatients，5508 inpatients and more than 2086 operations.
Dingxi Hospital has become a comprehensive medical teaching and research hospital. It is also the three first class hospital. Dingxi Hospital has 1,250 beds and old service area of 33,000 sq m as well as new service area of 75,000 sq m. It has 985 staff, In 2016, these indices amounted to 695,600 outpatients，29,200 inpatients and 7710 operations.
Xigu Hospital has become a comprehensive medical teaching and research hospital. It is also the second first class hospital. Xigu Hospital has 300 beds and service area of 16,023 sq m. It has 492 staff. There are 3 director, 29 vice director and intermediate health care employees. In 2014 Xigu Hospital passed accreditation by JCI that is a famous International Healthcare Organization. In 2016, these indices amounted to 297,500 outpatients and 16,700 inpatients and more than 2196 operations.

Education
The hospital is authorized to confer doctoral degree and professional doctoral degree in primary Clinical Medicine discipline. Nowadays, it is called Lanzhou University School of Medicine. In addition, there is a post-doctoral research station of clinical medicine discipline with clinical medicine, medical laboratory science, medical imaging, anesthesiology, nursing major. There are 1 A class doctoral discipline point; 1 Cui Ying Professor; 2 B class doctoral points; 1 A class master-degree point; 17 B class master-degree points. The hospital has 23 tutors for the training of doctor degree students, 137 tutors for the training of master degree students. 60 professors and 107 associate professors have been enrolled in our hospital. The hospital has succeeded in graduating a large number of competent medical professionals.
Research
For scientific research, LUSH has the leading position in Gansu province. 3 years since, it has gained 286 projects, and it has received close to 196,300,000 RMB of research funding, including 32 provincial level projects and 11 bureau level projects. It has applied for 84 patents. 411 research papers were published ,including 227 research papers of SCI，452 research papers of CSCD and 216 professional publications.

Agreements for medical teaching and research cooperation have been signed successively with over 20 well-known universities and hospitals in the countries of USA, Britain, Germany, Japan, Israel, Australia, Norway, and Sweden. Our hospital has achieved Friendship Hospital agreements with State of Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma University Hospitals, Canadian McGill University Medical Center, Australian Sydney University Hospital of and Japanese Akita Hospital. 134 specialized personnel have successfully studied and trained abroad. Visiting professors from the United States, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, Russia, Singapore, Malaysia, Iran, Israel, South Africa, The Czech Republic, Hungary, India and other countries representing 124 fields have contributed in the hospital.

2016 China Best Hospital Management Team Award，2015 Hong Kong Alibi Hospital Management Research Center initially launched the Top-100 China Hospitals Competitiveness. Lanzhou University Second Hospital won Improve Service Innovation Award Hospital, Stroke Screening and Prevention Base, 2015 National Health and Family Planning Commission of stroke prevention project demonstration base hospital, 2015 annual national health planning stroke for stroke screening committee prevention project management advanced base by National Health and Family Planning Commission; Zhouqu County People's Government issued the title of miao shou ren xin, da ai wu jiang, tian shi guan ai, qing xi zang xiang. It means that the Tibetan village patients got great love from professional doctors and nurses as real angel. Our hospital also won the 2015 Gansu Provincial Health Emergency Drills prize and other 15 hospital honors.
Social Public Welfare and Charities
Lanzhou University Second Hospital always puts the public interest in first place. We uphold the service discipline, “Serving for People” through every aspect of our work. In 2014, LUSH rescued wounded in 8.7 severe crash of Maqu, south of Gansu Province. May 2012, ORBIS cooperated with our hospital to provide free quality eye operations for 80 patients in Gansu province. Meanwhile, over hundreds physicians received training by ORBIS. In 2011, the hospital organized several volunteers to hold charity consultation for citizens. In 2010, a program called Poor Families with Congenital Heart Disease Medical Relief Activities was instituted; the hospital serves as The Gansu Province Hearing Disorder Treatment Center to heal newborn babies with a disability. Lanzhou University Second Hospital deployed 40 experts to carry out aid work for nearly more than 1,000 local people from Zhouqu ditrict; at the same time, we dispatched 5 doctors to participate in "tour-style" aid work teams of Gansu Province medical personnel for Tibetan village patients.
